Therapeutic Riding

Benefits of Therapeutic Riding

Many of MANE & TAILL’s participants have grown up with the program and the skills they have acquired, along with the horses, have fostered confidence in themselves and enhanced their ability to navigate the world around them.

Benefits include:

  • Horseback riding rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait. Riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance and muscle strength.
  • Participants experience increased confidence, independence, and self-esteem.
  • Individuals with learning disorders or developmental disabilities increase their capacity to concentrate, be patience and disciplined. The unique relationship formed with a horse can help in improving interpersonal relationships.
  • Therapeutic riding benefits individuals with, but not limited to, muscular dystrophy, intellectual, learning and emotional disabilities, multiple sclerosis, depression, autism, down syndrome, brain injuries, cerebral palsy and attention deficit disorder.
